What is SSL?

Without excessive technical jargon, SSL is a method designed by Netscape to transmit encrypted information over the Internet. It ensures that information remains private and arrives without error. There are different versions. Snip uses the one with a 256-bit key. This version is the industry standard; even banks and other financial institutions use it to transfer data across the Internet.

What is an SSL Certificate?

An SSL Certificate is a file which ensures that a website or computer and the people behind are who they say they are and that they are reputable. This file is issued by a company called the Certificate Authority which guarantees that it has checked the site or people and deems them trustworthy. When your web browser verifies a certificate, you can be sure that you are connected to the right website or computer and have not been tricked. In most browsers you can verify a certificate simply by double clicking on a () padlock icon in the status bar. Snip's SSL Certificate is issued by Let's Encrypt.

How does Snip use SSL?
